So it’s well known amongst my friends, family and pretty much anyone that knows me, that I have an addiction when it comes to buying clothes. But there is one item in particular that has become more of a passion than an addiction.
TRAINERS!! Black, blue, purple, grey, white and even the occasional leopard print. Nike, Adidas, Converse, Vans… You name it I own it, or if I don’t It’s in the post.

They may have been invented to aid sportsmen and women in their goal to become the best they can be, but I most definitely don’t wear them for that reason (Although I probably should).

I own around 55 pairs of trainers and because I have so many, I no longer have room in my closet for them all. You know you have a problem when you have to purchase special air tight containers to store all your trainers.

One of the main reason I love trainers or ‘sneakers’ for my American readers, is because they are usually very gender neutral. I would say out of all clothing items, trainers are the only item that looks similar in both male and female styles.

There is one thing that is an issue with Mens trainers and that is the sizes! Mens shoes are made slightly larger than women’s, I have found that they tend to be about half a size bigger. This can be awkward because not many places do half sizes, I am a size 6 in women’s shoes which means I would need a size 51/2 in Mens. Because of the size difference, buying mens trainers for myself is very difficult. So if anyone knows any shops that do half sizes? please let me know!!!

Now I want to share with you how this passion for trainers started, I was about 7 years old and my mother had been shopping with a friend, she came in and handed me a box and said “I got you a little something”.

It was a pair of LA Gear trainers, Oh God!! Just saying ‘LA Gear’ that makes me feel old! as they have recently come back as retro! I’m sure you’ll find them in Urban Outfitters within the month.

Anyway I digress… these were not any ordinary pair of LA Gear Trainers oh no, this particular pair did something special when you walked (you should have seen my face when I saw them for the first time) these were the first ever pair of light up trainers. I had never seen them before and I was the first kid in my school to own a pair. I’m not going to lie, I walked around that school like I owned the place.

I loved these trainers so much I even remember the day the lights stopped working.
I was on holiday in France and we were heading out for our evening meal, when my younger brother pointed out that they were no longer lighting up, I cried for about an hour straight.

I guess I blame my addiction on that first pair of awesome light up LA Gear trainers, because ever since that red light glowed from my feet I have been hooked and I regress to that 7 year old every time I put on a fresh new pair.
