If you’re a bit of a tomboy like me, you might find you don’t feel overly comfortable in certain clothing items, such as feminine underwear, women’s jeans and girl’s t-shirts.

I have a few items of clothing that I consider to be an essential part of my wardrobe and continually repurchase.

1. Leather Jacket

Everyone needs a leather jacket! it’s an essential to anyones wardrobe, it can make any outfit and can be worn over any top.
My leather jacket (shown below) is made in the biker style, as I prefer that look but any cut will work.
Also if you prefer vegan friendly, then most places sell faux leather jackets now, you can find lots of affordable styles on
The awesome ‘Boy Girl Human’ T-shirt I am wearing below can be found at Raw-Couture

2. Boxers/briefs and Crop Tops

Underwear can be a bit of a nightmare, I prefer girl boxers and crop tops but these can be difficult to find. I usually buy Calvin Klein boxers and crop tops.

Tommy Hilfiger also do great Crop Tops.

But if these are a little out of your price range then most high street stores sell girl briefs or crop tops, you can find great ones in Urban Outfitters, Top Shop or H&M.

Obviously Crop Tops are difficult to wear if you are top heavy (I wasn’t blessed in that department so can wear them easily) so if you are blessed then I would recommend wearing a fashionable sports bra, this will look better under the t-shirt and give you the support you need.

3. Jeans

I tend to wear women’s skinny jeans a lot as I can’t seem to escape my Emo childhood, to be honest you can get these in any high street store.

If you want to get a decent pair then you can’t go wrong with Levis or Tommy Hilfiger jeans, they never stretch out like the cheaper jeans tend to do.

But if you like the looser fitting jean then you can buy men’s skinny/slim fit jeans, these tend to fit slightly looser on the leg but still have that skinny feel.

I am a size UK 8 which is a 26 waist, in USA that’s a US size 4, But if you order men’s jeans you need to go a size up because men have smaller hips than women (nobody wants the muffin top look) so I would go for 28 waist jean. Or you can get a women’s relaxed fit jean in any high street store (always try on your jeans before your purchase) every girl is different and what looks good on one might not suit another.

4. T-Shirts

Girls T-Shirts tend to ride higher than men’s so they show your waist line more, this doesn’t always suit the Tomboy look so I have a few suggestions.

You can purchase men’s T-shirts in a smaller size, I order XXS or XS and this size fits me perfectly and tends to be slightly longer in length.

If you don’t want to buy men’s T-shirts you can go into most high street stores and get ‘longline’ Tees which are currently on trend.
I prefer to wear Tees from stores that sell gender neutral clothing, the ‘Flawed + Adored’ Longline T-shirt I am wearing below is from Land Clothing

  1. While a pair of vintage Levi’s is a no-brainer for your tomboy-inspired wardrobe, you need a pair of tailored pants for occasions that require a bit more refinement — like Monday morning’s boardroom meeting.
